Director of Provost Communications
 
Melissa Sherwin is the Director of Provost Communications at the University of Chicago. In this role, she leads communications for Provost Baicker and the Office of the Provost. Melissa oversees the Academic Communicators Network track in the Faculty Development Program, which is designed to help academics enhance their capacity to communicate effectively about their research and scholarship with external audiences. She works closely with faculty to maximize the impact and visibility of their work through the UChicago Research Dissemination and Communications Program. Melissa is also a member of the University Communications senior leadership team and supports strategic communications initiatives across the institution.
 
Prior to joining UChicago in 2019, Melissa owned and operated a consulting business where she created strategic marketing and communications plans for various organizations. With extensive experience in academia, Melissa previously held leadership positions at the Associated Colleges of the Midwest and at Loyola University Chicago. She began her career in publishing, working in the arts/entertainment, education, and healthcare sectors. Melissa has also worked as a journalist for several national publications and is an award-winning film producer.  
 
Melissa earned a master’s degree in journalism from Roosevelt University and a bachelor’s degree in English and theatre from Elmhurst University.
