With a generous donation from the Neubauer family in 2007, the University of Chicago established the Neubauer Family Assistant Professor Program. This program supports tenure-track appointments for up to 20 of the nation’s most outstanding young faculty and serves as a powerful recruiting and retaining tool for the University. Deans recommend to the Provost particularly accomplished scholars for a Neubauer Family Assistant Professorship appointment. Each Neubauer Family Assistant Professor receives research support to be used in any way he or she chooses over a five-year professorship appointment and guaranteed leave time to pursue research that will further foster that individual's scholarly work and career. New appointees come together each year to form a multidisciplinary cohort that meets for talks, dinners, and research presentations.
