The University of Chicago community will engage you, stimulate you, and challenge you. The support services we provide are intended to make your transition here as seamless as possible and help you take advantage of all the University has to offer.

The University offers assistance with the costs of caring for dependents while instructors are teaching class remotely or teaching in-person for the Autumn Quarter, in either case while the dependents are at the instructor’s home due to remote learning or otherwise as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

To help faculty and other scholars balance their family and work commitments, the University provides access to high-quality childcare services and resources.

The University offers a grant to faculty members to help with incremental, out-of-pocket expenses incurred associated with caring for a dependent, such as children or parents, while the faculty member is attending professional conferences, seminars, meetings, or workshops.

The University provides individually tailored resources to support new and prospective faculty and their partners with their transition to Chicago.

The Office of the Provost, in collaboration with an Emeriti Faculty Steering Committee, works to develop new resources and engagement opportunities for current and future emeriti, and to address issues impacting the emeriti community.

The Office of the Provost provides an opportunity for all tenure-track faculty members to stop the tenure review process for a year when they become parents through childbirth or adoption. This policy applies to both women and men and includes same-sex, registered domestic, or civil union partners.
