Subject: UCPD and Department of Safety & Security Listening Sessions
Date: December 3, 2020
I write to follow up on my messages of October 29 and August 12 regarding the University’s public safety engagement efforts. As described in those messages, we have been holding small group listening sessions for students, faculty, staff, and members of the broader community in order to hear multiple experiences and perspectives on the University’s public safety function — both UCPD and the campus security officers.
Over the Autumn Quarter 39 separate meetings have taken place with students, faculty members, staff, alumni, and community. We are interested in hearing both critical and positive perspectives and welcome the chance to hear your input and concerns. Once the meetings are complete, our plan is to hold a public forum to discuss issues raised in these meetings.
If you are interested in participating in such a meeting to provide concerns or input or share your experiences with either UCPD or our campus security officers, please contact PublicSafetyEngagement@uchicago.edu to schedule an engagement meeting.
