As Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs, Jeff Jackson serves as the staff lead on the academic appointment process and procedures for academic appointees, and reviews academic appointments to help implement the University’s commitment to the highest meritocratic standards. Jeff is also the University’s lead on institutional accreditation and assessment.
Jeff earned his BA, MA, and PhD in Political Science from UCLA and is the author of Equality Beyond Debate: John Dewey’s Pragmatic Idea of Democracy (Cambridge, 2018). He has also published numerous articles and essays resulting from his scholarly research in journals such as Political Theory, Polity, Constellations, and Democratic Theory. From 2015 to 2019 Jeff was a Harper-Schmidt Fellow and Collegiate Assistant Professor in the Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts at the University of Chicago, where he taught Social Sciences Core courses for students in the College. He has also taught as a Lecturer at the Harris School of Public Policy and in the UCLA Department of Political Science. His prior administrative work at UChicago has included serving as Associate Director of the Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy (MSCAPP) program, and as Associate Director of Research Initiatives at the Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society.
Jeff lives in Oak Park, IL with his wife and two daughters.
