As associate provost, Josh Beck works closely with academic divisions, professional schools, and administrative units to promote the equitable and optimal assignment and use of campus space in support of academic programs, balanced within the broader context of campus-wide programming and strategic planning initiatives. In collaboration with the Budget Office and Facilities Services, he assists in the development and administration of the University’s capital budget plan and in leading the annual capital budget process, focusing primarily on alterations and renovations in support of academic initiatives.
Josh joined the University in 2000. For 12 years, he held a variety of roles in the Center for Latin American Studies, supporting degree programs and student advancement, faculty research, and visiting professors. In 2012, Josh became the inaugural managing director of the Neubauer Collegium, helping develop and implement comprehensive operating plans and building design to support the unit’s academic vision. In 2014, Josh joined the Division of the Social Sciences as associate dean and chief of staff, where he supported faculty recruitment and retention, academic initiatives, and strategic planning for facilities and computing services.
Josh earned a BA from Macalester College with a double major in anthropology and English and completed an AM in Latin American and Caribbean studies at the University of Chicago. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, exploring outdoors, and meeting neighbors in Hyde Park.
