Assistant Provost
Assistant Provost Michael Tessel supports the advancement, development, and well-being of faculty and academics at the University.
Mike joined the Office of the Provost in this role in 2023. He has worked at UChicago since 2014, previously overseeing UChicagoGRAD’s career and professional development support for graduate students and postdocs. During his time at UChicagoGRAD, Mike initiated and grew several large-scale programs while expanding the team’s career development staff. Prior to working at UChicago, Mike did postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He earned his PhD in cancer biology from Northwestern University, and his AB in biological sciences from the University of Chicago.
Outside of work, Mike enjoys hiking in national parks, wearing dapper clothes, and sipping unique libations.
