Randal C. Picker is the James Parker Hall Distinguished Service Professor of Law in the Law School.
As vice provost for academic affairs, Randy oversees all faculty and other academic appointments, promotions, recruitments, and retentions, where the University's commitment to the highest levels of research and teaching inform faculty-governed meritocratic decisions guided by the Shils Report; he is also tasked with giving guidance and training on the principles of the Kalven Report; and he plays a critical role in faculty governance.
Randy's primary research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of intellectual property, competition policy, and regulated industries. His new book on competition in the computer and related industries is under contract with the Princeton University Press. Randy joined the Law School faculty in 1989 and previously served as Academic Associate Dean from 1994 to 1996. He has twice served as Spokesperson for the Council of the University Senate, and he served on the faculty advisory committee to the board of trustees during the University’s last presidential search. Randy is a proud graduate of the University of Chicago three times over, having received his bachelor's and master's degrees in economics and his Juris Doctor from the Law School.
