SEIU Local 73 Negotiation Update

I am very pleased to share that bargaining teams from the University of Chicago and SEIU Local 73 reached a full tentative agreement on the terms of a renegotiated contract. The five-year contract, which covers Instructional Professors, Lecturers, Teaching Fellows, Professors of Practice in the Arts, and Writing Specialists and other staff of the writing program, will be put to a ratification vote in the coming days.  

Our bargaining teams worked diligently to address concerns, seek compromises, and find common ground on each issue raised. The new contract includes terms addressing pay, benefits, and workload.

This tentative agreement reflects the dedication and hard work of both the University and the union’s bargaining teams. I want to express my gratitude to all parties involved for their collaborative efforts and steadfast commitment to our students. We appreciate SEIU Local 73’s engagement throughout this process and are pleased that this contract will provide additional support to our valued colleagues as they continue making outstanding contributions to our academic community.
