The Working Group, which included faculty, other academic appointee and staff representatives, was asked to advise on coverage options that were being considered for Medicare-eligible retirees under the plan. Coverage at the time of the group's convening was provided under the Anthem Medicare Preferred PPO plan.

The group was asked to consider various options for the plan including a change in insurance carrier from Anthem and the type of plan provided. It reviewed retirees’ experience with Anthem, including service, network reach and other features. It also considered the benefits and limitations of Medicare Advantage plans, which were in place at the time of review, Medicare plus Medigap plans, which were provided prior to January 2019, and the possibility of offering both plan options.
